League Membership
The Get a Life Football League-Dynasty will be called "the league" throughout these Rules and Regulations.
The league will consist of twelve teams. Teams may use use the name of a professional sports team, so long as it's only part of their team name. New York Giants would not be acceptable, buy Goleta Giants would be. Really stupid team names will not be allowed.
The league will be divided into two divisions of six teams each. Divisions will not change from year to year, division names will not change.
Any individual(s) approved by the Commissioner may own a team. Dumbshits will not be allowed to own teams.
There is no limit to the number of owners that a team may have. Unless the Commissioner is informed otherwise in advance, it will be assumed that any owners listed for a team are authorized to perform any functions for that team.
A team may be sold any time during a season. The new owner must be approved by the Commissioner, and will be held responsible for any outstanding debt associated with that team. New owners will be expected to abide by all league rules.
If an owner moves or otherwise disappears during the season, his team may be considered an "abandoned team." The Commissioner will attempt to find a new owner for the abandoned team, or may appoint an owner from the one of the other leagues to act as owner for purposes of roster maintenance. Any money won by abandoned teams will be split equally among all remaining teams in that league.
Any owner(s) that abandon a team will be banned from all future GLFL leagues, as it will be obvious that they are unreliable idiots.
Commissioners
All functions of the league will be handled by the Commissioner in conjunction with CBSSports.com, unless delegated to another individual.
The Commissioner will attempt to resolve any disputes that may arise. If the dispute cannot be resolved to the satisfaction of all parties involved, the matter will be put to a vote of all owners. The result of this vote will be binding.
The office of Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner are not voted upon, but are occupied by an unimpeachable tyrants. Term of office is forever, or until the Commissioners lose interest. The Deputy Commissioner will assume the duties of the Commissioner only if necessary.
The wisdom of the Commissioners will never be in question.
Season
The season will be concurrent with the NFL regular season.
Weeks 1-13 will make up the regular season. Each team will play every other team once, and two of the other teams in their division twice. Final standings in the regular season will determine play-off positions.
Single elimination playoffs will be held on Weeks 14-15, the Championship game will be held on Week 16.
The off-season begins immediately after the playoffs have concluded, and continue until the next NFL season begins.
Fees and Prize Pool
Each team must pay a $75 Franchise Fee, and $5 regular season loss. There will be no other charges for free agents or trades.
Prizes are based on finish in the Playoffs:
- League Champion (60%)
- 2nd Place (25%)
- 3rd Place (15%)
- 4th Place ($50)
- Division Champions ($100 each)
All prizes based on a percentage are calculated after the guaranteed amounts for 4th place and the Division Champions are subtracted from the Prize Pool. The fee for the league web site will also be subtracted before prize amounts are calculated.
The League Administration Fee for this league will only be the cost of the league web site.
Legal Roster
Each team must maintain a legal roster at all times. A legal roster may have any number of players, but must have at minimum:

Spring Draft
The Spring Draft will begin the Monday after the NFL Draft ends. This draft will be eight rounds long and will be conducted over several days (or weeks) by e-mail. Owners will have up to 18 hours to make each pick.
Only players taken in the recently completed NFL Draft, or undrafted free agents straight out of college, may be taken in rounds 1-3. In rounds 4-8 any unowned player may be taken.
A draft lottery will be held to determine the first six picks. The six non playoff teams will be entered into a weighted drawing based on regular season record. The team with the worst record will receive six lots, the next worst five lots, etc. If records are equal, lower total points will be the tiebreaker.
The two teams eliminated the first week of the playoffs will flip a coin for the 7th and 8th spot. The two teams elminated in the semi-final round will flip a coin for the 9th and 10th spot. The loser of the Championship game will pick 11th, and the league Champion will pick 12th. This draft order will be the same in all rounds (not switchback/serpentine).
Pre-Season
After the second weekend of preseason games has concluded, each team will be allowed to select one unowned player. Then, after each subsequent week of preseason games has concluded, teams will be allowed to select another unowned player. Teams who wish to select a player must submit a list of players that they would like to select, in order of preference, by e-mail before midnight PST on each of these draft deadlines:
Week 2 - August 24

Final Cuts
All teams must cut down to 25 players on the day immediately preceeding the first game of the NFL season, before midnight. This number does not include IR or PUP players.
After these cuts, teams may not have more than four quarterbacks, and may not have more than two kickers.
Contracts/Keepers
Once a team drafts a player, claims a player off of the Waiver Wire, or acquires a player by trade, that player is the property of that team until they are released or traded away. Players may be kept by their team from season to season, there are no contracts that expire.
Starting Lineup
Weekly lineups must be submitted at CBSSports.com.

Scores will not be corrected after that point.
All points scored by players in the starting lineup and their performance points will be combined to reach a team score. The team whose score is higher will be declared the winner of that game.

The winner of the tiebreaker will have one point added to their final score.
Standings and Playoffs

The two Division Champions will advance to the playoffs as the first and second seeds, and receive first round byes.
The second place teams from each division will advance to the playoffs as wildcards. The remaining team with the best record, regardless of division will advance to the playoffs as a wildcard. The remaining team with the highest points scored, regardless of division will advance to the playoffs as the final wildcard. The wildcard teams will be seeded 3-6 based on win/loss records.
In cases where teams are tied in record, the following tie-breaking procedures will be used:
- Highest points scored by active roster for the regular season
- Highest points scored by active roster in games between the tied teams
- Highest total points scored by entire roster for the season
- Coin toss, or mud wrestling
Starting lineups will not be named for playoff games. After all games are completed, the best possible lineup will automatically be scored for each team and a winner will be determined.
Waiver Wire
This league will award players on a waiver wire system. Any player not on the roster of another team in the league, will be considered a free agent, and may be claimed at any time from the beginning of the season until the free agent deadline.
Each week on Tuesday the waiver order is reset to the reverse order of the standings. Claimed players are awarded based on the waiver order. Waiver claims are processed each night from Tuesday through Saturday. When a team is awarded a player, they move to the bottom of the waiver order. This continues throughout the week until Saturday night, no players are awarded on Sunday or Monday.
Trades
Players may be traded freely between teams. The trade becomes official when all teams involved in the trade have reported the details of the trade to the GLFL office. Trades can be made through CBSSports.com, or reported to the Commissioner.
A trade may be withdrawn, so long as all teams involved in the trade agree, and have notified the Commissioner before the next league game.
All teams involved in the trade must have legal rosters when the trade is completed.
Trades may involve players, future draft picks, or both.
Trades may not involve cash, property, first born children, or any other considerations.
During the season, no trades may be made after the transaction deadline of Week 10.
Injured Reserve
Only players who meet the following conditions may be placed on IR:
- The player has been placed on the NFL IR or PUP (Physically Unable To Perform list)
- The player was on a GLFL team roster when he was injured and placed on the NFL IR or PUP list.
Players placed on the IR in the NFL are out for the season, but players on the PUP may return. Any player that is activated from the PUP by their NFL team, must be activated by his GLFL team, or released within seven days.
Players on the Injured Reserve do not count against any roster limits.
Code of Conduct Violations
Teams will be fined $5 per week that a player is suspended by the NFL, up to a maximum of $25 per suspension. Suspended players, or players facing a suspension may not be released.
Wagers Between Teams
Wagers between teams are acceptable, but are outside of the league. No money involved in wagers will be added to or subtracted from team accounts.
Final Words of Wisdom From the Commissioner
There are no provisions for adding or changing rules based on a vote of the owners. That is because this is a dictatorship. I make the rules, and when I have an idea I usually ask a few owners what they think, but ultimately, the decisions are mine. If this pisses you off, join a different league or start your own.
Collusion between two or more teams will not be tolerated! While it is difficult to prove that two owners acted in concert to affect the outcome of a game or season, any owners that exhibit behavior that strongly points to such conduct will be kicked out of the league and not invited back for future Get a Life Football League seasons. The object is to compete and have a good time, and the conduct described above would certainly be contrary to that aim.
Besides, it would mean that you are an asshole, and we don't want assholes in our league, so don't even think about doing it!!! |
